Metal Building Customization: More Options Than You Think

A lot of people picture metal buildings as plain silver boxes. That's not what we sell.

Through Rescue Metal Designs, I can configure a building with the colors, doors, windows, roof style, and add-ons that fit your specific needs and property. Here's a look at what's available.

Color Options

Rescue Metal Designs uses Sherwin-Williams coated steel panels, which means you have access to a wide range of colors for both the walls and the roof. Popular choices include:

Walls:

  • Galvalume (natural metallic)
  • White
  • Beige / Tan
  • Clay
  • Charcoal
  • Red
  • Green
  • Blue
  • Black

Roofs:

  • Galvalume
  • Charcoal
  • Red
  • Green
  • Blue
  • Black

You can mix and match wall and roof colors to match your property, complement your home, or meet HOA requirements. I can show you color samples when you call.

Roof Style Options

As I've covered in other posts, roof style is one of the most important choices you'll make:

  • Vertical roof — panels run ridge to eave, best drainage and wind resistance (my standard recommendation)
  • A-frame horizontal — panels run side to side, lower cost but less performance
  • Regular roof — rounded corners, basic option for simple carports

For most applications, I recommend vertical roof. The performance difference is significant and the price difference is modest.

Door Options

Roll-Up Doors

Roll-up doors are the standard for garages and workshops. Available in multiple sizes:

  • 8×7, 9×7, 10×10, 12×10, 12×12, 14×14, and larger
  • Standard white or color-matched to the building
  • Manual or electric (motor-operated)

Walk-In Doors

Walk-in doors (also called man doors or service doors) provide pedestrian access without opening the full roll-up door.

Available styles:

  • Solid panel — basic, secure, no window
  • 9-Lite — nine glass panes in the upper portion, adds light
  • Diamond window — single diamond-shaped window

Standard size is 36×80. All walk-in doors include a frame and threshold.

Framed Openings

If you want to install your own door or a specialty door, I can configure a framed opening to your specifications.

Window Options

Windows add natural light and ventilation to enclosed buildings. Standard options include:

  • Single-pane windows — basic, cost-effective
  • Double-pane windows — better insulation, recommended for climate-controlled spaces
  • Available in multiple sizes: 2×3, 3×3, 3×4, and others

Windows can be placed in walls at any location. Plan their placement before ordering — moving them after installation is not practical.

Lean-To Additions

A lean-to is an attached covered structure that extends from one side of the main building. It's one of the most popular add-ons because it dramatically increases covered space at a relatively low cost.

Common lean-to uses:

  • Additional vehicle storage
  • Equipment staging area
  • Covered outdoor workspace
  • Firewood or material storage

Lean-tos are available in various widths (typically 10–20 ft) and can run the full length of the building or a portion of it.

Insulation Options

For enclosed buildings, insulation is important for comfort, energy efficiency, and condensation control.

Double-Bubble Reflective Insulation

A foil-faced bubble wrap product that installs between the frame and the panels. It's cost-effective and reduces radiant heat significantly. Good for:

  • Workshops where you want to reduce summer heat
  • Storage buildings where condensation is a concern

Fiberglass Batt Insulation

Higher R-value than double-bubble, installed in the wall and roof cavities. Better for:

  • Climate-controlled spaces
  • Buildings with HVAC
  • Barndominiums and living spaces

Spray Foam

Maximum performance, applied by a contractor after the building is up. Best for:

  • Finished living spaces
  • Commercial buildings with strict energy requirements

Anchoring Systems

How your building is anchored depends on the foundation type:

  • Auger anchors — for gravel or dirt installations
  • Concrete anchors — for concrete slab installations
  • Rebar anchors — for mobile home parks and some rural applications

All Rescue Metal Designs buildings include an appropriate anchor system for the specified foundation type.

Combo Configurations

Some of the most popular buildings I sell are combo configurations — a main enclosed structure with an attached open carport or lean-to. These give you the best of both worlds: secure enclosed storage plus covered open-air space.

Common combos:

  • Enclosed garage + attached carport
  • Workshop + equipment lean-to
  • Barn + hay storage lean-to

Let's Build Yours

The best way to explore your options is to call me at 901-412-1270. I'll ask about your intended use, your property, and your preferences — then walk you through the configurations that make sense for your situation.

There's no pressure and no obligation. I'd rather spend time helping you figure out exactly what you need than have you order something that doesn't quite fit.
